Originally from Southampton, I studied at Portsmouth College of Art and then at the University of Portsmouth.
Following a degree in computer graphics I spent several years working in the video games industry, before going freelance and running my own creative media business with partner and fellow artist Vanessa Wells.
A few years ago we moved to the Hampshire village of Swanmore and I’ve now turned our garage into a small studio and temporary exhibition space.
I paint in oils and acrylics. Both media have their own distinct qualities and it’s good to keep exploring and developing techniques.
Much of my reference material comes from photographs but I also make pencil and water-soluble crayon sketches to explore colour combinations and composition before starting a new canvas.
I’ve always enjoyed being outdoors and walking in the countryside - there is so much amazing scenery within the British Isles.
There are several places I’ve kept going back to over the years, especially the Cornish coastline, The English Lake District and the magical Isle of Skye.
More recently though, having moved to Swanmore I’ve been inspired by what may seem far less dramatic scenery.
But even in the course of a short walk up the lane from where we live, the changing light and weather can create fascinating views.
